Encuentran la momia de lobo más antigua del mundo

Son muchos los ejemplares de animales momificados que hemos encontrado en la naturaleza, y en esta ocasión llama más la atención debido a que se trata de la conocida como la momia de lobo más antigua del mundo, ya que se calcula que ha podido permanecer enterrada en el hielo al menos unos 57.000 años.

Conforme se va produciendo el deshielo en determinadas zonas que llevan miles de años heladas, poco a poco se van realizando hallazgos sin duda muy interesantes, y buen ejemplo de ello es Zhùr, un cachorro de lobo hembra que fue descubierto por un buscador de oro que trabajaba en la zona noroeste de Canadá.

El minero encontró este ejemplar cuando realizaba su labor en una de las paredes de barro congelado, dentro de una mina que se supone sería en su momento su refugio y el lugar donde se escondía de los depredadores y de las inclemencias del tiempo.

Sin embargo, a este cachorro le esperaba un día aciago, ya que seguramente se produjo una avalancha o un derrumbe que además de matarla también la enterró, haciendo de esta forma que permaneciese lejos del alcance de los depredadores y de las inclemencias que hubiesen destruido su cuerpo.

Uno de los aspectos positivos de este descubrimiento no es ya sólo el hecho de encontrar un animal con 57.000 años de antigüedad, sino que su estado es prácticamente impecable, ya que tan sólo le faltan los ojos según informa la profesora Meachen de la Universidad de Des Moines de Estados Unidos, una de las personas que ha participado en esta investigación.

Gracias al casi perfecto estado de conservación del animal, se ha podido comenzar con un estudio muy completo a través del cual se ha buscado la reconstrucción de su corta vida, ya que tan sólo tenía unas siete semanas, y según la investigación, se encontraba en perfecto estado de salud.

Esto ha permitido hacer algunos descubrimientos interesantes acerca del estilo de vida de los lobos durante el pleistoceno, descubriendo más acerca de su dieta como el hecho de que se alimentaban de salmones entre otros animales acuáticos, algo desconocido hasta la fecha puesto que siempre se ha pensado que eran hábiles cazadores de animales de tierra como los bueyes y bisontes.

No obstante, toda esta información requiere de una investigación más amplia, ya que debemos partir de la base de que todos estos descubrimientos están relacionados con la vida de Zhùr, lo que significa que podría ser una particularidad de esta manada que habitaba en una zona cercana al río, mientras que es posible que otras que estuviesen en lugares más alejados, tuviesen costumbres diferentes.

De igual manera, se trata de un paso muy interesante que ayuda a acercarnos más al conocimiento de la vida sobre la Tierra hace 57.000 años, al cual se unirán las próximas investigaciones que se realizarán en los próximos años, con otras momias que también se han conseguido recuperar de diferentes zonas más o menos próximas a las del hallazgo de la momia de lobo más antigua del mundo.
