Tiburones y rayas están a punto de desaparecer
Un alto porcentaje de especies de tiburones y rayas están a punto de desaparecer, hasta el punto que se calcula que en los últimos 50 años, su población se ha reducido en aproximadamente tres cuartas partes, por diferentes razones entre las que destaca la pesca, que sin un control eficiente puede ser el motivo de desaparición definitiva de algunas variedades.
El 25% de especies de tiburones y rayas en peligro de extinción
En los últimos años, hemos sido testigos del fuerte descenso de ejemplares de multitud de especies animales, una situación que ha puesto en serio peligro algunas de ellas como es el caso de tiburones y rayas.
Tanto los tiburones como las rayas se presentan con multitud de variedades que se extienden por los océanos de prácticamente todo el mundo, pero desde el año 1970 que se lleva observando la tendencia de estos ejemplares, se ha podido comprobar que en los últimos 50 años se ha perdido aproximadamente las tres cuartas partes de población.
Esto ha hecho que el 25% de las especies tanto de tiburones como de rayas se encuentren en peligro de extinción en estos momentos, lo cual por una parte nos indica que estos animales están sufriendo una amenaza seria que puede dar lugar a una ruptura en el ámbito natural, mientras que por otra parte, también es una clara muestra de que el estado de salud de los océanos se encuentra en la cuerda floja, y de no establecer medidas para poder solucionarlo, al final puede llegar la situación a convertirse en un serio problema para el mundo tal y como lo conocemos.
Los riesgos que amenazan a estos peces
Son muchos los riesgos que amenazan a tiburones y rayas, y en este sentido, la actividad humana es una de las más preocupantes.
Esto tiene su lado bueno y su lado negativo, es decir, la parte negativa es el hecho de que es el propio ser humano el que está acabando con el número de ejemplares de tiburones y rayas a lo largo del planeta, mientras que la parte positiva es que esto significa que, si establecemos medidas que eviten este impacto negativo del hombre en el medio natural, es fácil y rápido poder alcanzar una recuperación suficiente que saque del riesgo a estas especies amenazadas hoy en día.
Entre los principales riesgos que amenazan la supervivencia de tiburones y rayas destaca la pesca o, mejor dicho, la sobrepesca, y es que estamos hablando de animales que son muy apreciados por su carne, por aletas, branquias e incluso para la fabricación de aceite de hígado.
Sólo hay que observar que al principio del siglo XXI, en los primeros años del 2000, se pasó de capturar una media de 63 millones de ejemplares a 273 millones, muy especialmente debido a la mejora de sistemas que han favorecido al comercio internacional.
De hecho, una de las principales razones por las que se pesca del tiburón es precisamente por sus aletas, las cuales han adquirido una gran relevancia dentro del comercio a lo largo de todo el mundo.
No obstante, esta no es lo única razón de su situación crítica, sino que la contaminación marina también está haciendo mella y se puede convertir en otra amenaza que ataca directamente a todas las especies del océano, con lo cual es muy importante la concienciación para evitar alcanzar una situación de colapso que impida que tanto las especies como el medio natural se puedan recuperar de forma efectiva.
No debemos olvidar que puede llegar un momento en el que alcancemos el punto de no retorno, y en ese caso, la situación puede llegar a ser muy grave.
